Kids are able to create a multitude of different drawings. |
An Electronic Easel The Crayola Color Explosion Glow Board offers a unique way for kids to display their art, as it lights up drawings much like a neon sign. It incorporates several violet lights under the drawing surface. When lit, these lights cause the ink to take on a vivid, striking glow. The board's surface is reusable -- ink erases in an instant -- making it good for hours of fun at a time. Children can easily display their artwork by using the easel back to prop the board in place. And the board's two separate drawing layers give kids even more room to doodle. Using the glow board's controls, kids can choose to display one layer, or flash between both for an exciting billboard-like effect.
Drawing with the Glow Board
The glow board's markers come in six dazzling neon colors -- red, blue, yellow, green, orange, and pink. With these colors at their command, kids will be able to create a multitude of different drawings. Perhaps they will envision a galaxy with stars and planets, or render an undersea adventure. The markers have medium tips, which can draw thickly but also offer the ability to draw finer images. A tracing sheet comes with the board to help kids get ideas for their artwork. This toy is recommended for children ages six and up, and requires three AAA batteries (not included.)

We bought this for our 8-year old daughter for a car trip out of state a month ago that would include some evening driving time. She was very excited to use it and the Dome lived up to her anticipation! I had read the other reviews after purchasing and will admit I was concerned.
Our experience:
All of our markers work perfectly (not dry at all) and seem to be staying same in a ziploc bag (also keeps them together more easily when not in use, although the board itself has ample snap-in storage room for all the markers + 4 extra you can buy).
The drawing surfaces are easy to interchange, snap in and out, and illuminate.
The complete board is lightweight enough to be comfortable for a long period on a lap in a car, and is easy to manipulate without dropping pieces.
The board has been very easy to clean. After reading other reviews, and knowing we would be in the car, I wet (and wrung out) an old lightweight washcloth and put in in a small ziploc bag. It was easy to wipe the board completely and without streaking. The washcloth (even when I used it) left no scratches on our screens. We used a paper (restaurant) napkin to gently dry the board and it left no scratches either. BONUS: the color did NOT transfer from the washcloth onto skin or clothing (I was SO pleased - thanks, Crayola!!). The washcloth rinsed clean almost as soon as it hit the water when we returned home and I washed it; yippee!
Our daughter REALLY LIKES this product. She has a great many (okay, read perhaps 'too many') arts and crafts supplies and 'devices'. She enjoys most of them very much. She was quite impressed (making me so, too) with this Crayola Board and was excited to reuse it. |

| My five year old daughter really likes the arts and craft stuff. This game she plays with occasionally, but not as much as I thought she would. |

| Once she understood how to do it, our daughter had a great time with this 3D drawing board. |

I like this toy, but it is a pain!
I hate having to clean the screens, keep the markers together, etc etc
It's fun to color, but then once you color, it takes much more tie to clean up and then color again.
Too much time involved with clean-up |

We purchased this for my 6 year old (very artistic) boy. He absolutely loves it. It's a great idea, but the markers are completely worthless. He played with the board for about 2 hours the first day and by the second day, the markers were dried up. We made sure when he put them away that the caps were on tightly and pointed down. Prepare yourself to look everywhere for replacement markers too. I can't seem to find them anywhere (unless I want to purchase another Glow Board.) It is somewhat difficult to clean, and we have to help him clean the screens. If the project hasn't been on the screen too long, it comes off easily with a damp paper towel, but if left over night, prepare to get the dish soap out and scrub a bit!
It is a neat idea, but with poor execution. It would be cool if Crayola made this board compatible with some of their other markers (maybe something easily replaceable?) |
