I know nothing about receivers and have no standard in audio quality. I bought this because my new house had surround sound speakers installed already and i wanted to use those speakers.
Anyhow i use the basic rca inputs and speaker inputs. it sounds nice. it was easy for a newbie to set up. I am overall pleased. |

Purchased the ONKYO TX-8255 in June. Hooked it up to a pair of old but superb ADS L-520 speakers. The sound is incredible for a receiver at this price. Two channel stereo when properly installed is still the best. Also routed the Sony HD TV through the Onkyo. TV sound is 500% better through the Onkyo and ADS speakers.
The AM and FM radio is also another plus. The FM is ok, but really needs a better outside antenna. I purchased a Magnum Dynalab FM antenna and installed it outside. I pull in stations 40 to 50 miles away with no static.
The ONKYO TX-8255 is a serious piece of stereo equipment at a very reasonable price. |

| I ordered a NEW Onkyo receiver from and received a REPACKAGED receiver that didn't work. did take it back at no cost - good news - but it never should have shipped in the first place. I did order a second NEW Onkyo receiver which also showed signs of being REPACKAGED. Thankfully, the second receiver worked, but the whole experience was a poor one. |

I purchased this receiver 3 years ago via . It quit working just after the warranty expired, so I spent $90 to have a "circuit board crack soldered" or so said the repair bill. Eight months later it quit again. I spent another $115 to have a "solder line repaired." Add in my time and shipping and I could have purchased another one. But, it's a good thing I didn't as it just quit again. This time I called an independent audio repair facility near my home and had a very informative discussion with a helpful technician. He said they do not work on "newer" Onkyo audio equipment any more as they are just not as robust as the older units. When I told him it was three years old, his advise was, "Don't waste any more money. Dump it and buy a higher end unit."
I believe if you want to know the real value of a product, talk to someone who repairs them e.g., an automotive mechanic, appliance repairperson etc. They will give you the real story. Don't buy this, or any other Onkyo unit or you will be buying trouble. |

| For those looking for true sound without needing all the video processing, this is one great receiver. It gives a tremendous bang for the buck. For those who want to listen to pure audio, this would be a great choice. And, it has a phono input so you can enjoy vinyl again! The controls are simple and straight forward. I found the FM reception to be very good even with the wire antenna. The power supply is very massive and heavy giving the receiver ample current to provide real power to your speakers. All in all, this is a great receiver. |
